Places to Visit

  • Wallowa Lake (OR)

    The summer visitor can take a tram to the 8,300 foot summit of Mt. Howard, which is on the edge of the Eagle Cap Wilderness.

  • Wallowa Mountains (OR)

    At nearly 10,000 feet in elevation, the Wallowas are visible from 85% of the route. Baker and Wallowa Valleys are at the mountains' feet and are a mile below the highest peaks. The jagged peaks retain pockets of snow through summer.

  • Wallowa Mountains Visitor Center (OR)

    You can get detailed recreation information here. There are interactive exhibits and dioramas that depict the area's cultural and natural history.

  • Wallowa Valley (OR)

    Legendary Wallowa Valley was the home of the elder and younger Chiefs Joseph and the Wallowa Band of the Nez Perce Indians. Lying at the foot of the Wallowa Mountains, at an elevation of 4,000 feet, the valley is green and lush throughout the summer.

  • Wallowa-Whitman National Forest (OR)

    As the largest forest in the Pacific Northwest, the Wallowa Whitman invites visitors to wallow in an abundance of recreational opportunities.
