Texas struggled for Independence, and the Texas Independence Trail covering 28 counties bordering the Gulf in the southeast corner of the state. Follow the historic fight to turn Texas into the heart of America with a closer look at heroes such as Davy Crockett, Sam Houston, and many more. San Antonio is so big it makes its way into two trails, including the Texas Independence Trail, and partners with Houston to round out the region before heading toward. Corpus Christi.

Cruise along the coast to enjoy the Gulf of Mexico before heading inland. Begin in Galveston, where many cruises leave from, along with home to many museums and a state park too. Houston offers another fabulous destination drawing in large crowds with rich history and tons of shopping. Check out important museums like the Holocaust Museum and the Czech Center too. After, check out the space station or the Market Square Historic District for open-air markets and restaurants.

To the west, visit San Antonio’s Alamo and Riverwalk while dining outdoors for a day of history and luxury. To visit the Birthplace of Texas, you will need to start in the northeast corner of the region in Washington. Visit the Independence hall where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed, and the Republic of Texas became an entity and visit the Star of the Republic Museum too for more history.

Next, check out historic Columbus crossing the Colorado river with a start back in 1821. With a rich history among the earlier state founders, the town is home to a large collection of Greek Revival and Victorian homes and buildings. Make sure to check out the Strafford Opera House and Confederate Memorial Museum while in town along with the Alley Log Cabin for an authentic historical Texas.

Visitors flock to Texas in the spring to watch the bluebonnets bloom, and no location offers a better view than Chappell Hill. Enjoy walking tours of local historic locations and tons of shots in their gorgeous downtown after capturing photos of the flowers. Enjoy more bluebonnets in Brenham along with tours of the infamous Blue Bell Creameries, home of Texas’ favorite ice cream.

For gorgeous architecture visit, Bastrop first established in 1804. The town restored many past buildings, including their opera house and the charming main street along the commercial downtown riverside. Find local art, tons of dining, and impressive views of the Colorado River. Head southwest to Cuero to enjoy the hilarious sight of hundreds of turkeys galavanting down Main Street during the town’s annual Turkeyfest every October.

Lastly, check out other cultures with trips through Flatonia for Czech heritage or Danevang for Danish history, including a restored pioneer home. History buffs may want to stop in Deer Park to view the Houston Ship Channel and a picturesque downtown or Fannin for a historic battleground.
