Special Considerations

Most of the route is somewhat narrow and winding. This means that there isn't much opportunity to pass slower vehicles, and speed limits average 30 mph.

A 200-foot long section of the route consists of hairpin curves, so you must slow down to about 15 mph in order to get around the 90-degree turns safely.

Restrictions

Because of heavy snowfall in the winter, the byway is closed to passenger vehicles from October to the first of June each year. However, Utah State Park employees groom the road for winter use.

Seasons

Best Time to Drive

Summer and fall are the best times to drive the byway.

High Season

Most visitors drive the byway during summer days and autumn weekends when the colors are at their peak.

Winter

Due to annual snowfall, the Nebo Loop may be closed during the winter months.
