Logan Canyon Scenic Byway
Visitor Services

All services are available in Logan, located on the south/west end of the byway. Garden City, on the north/east end, has most services, though they may be limited on Sundays and in the off-season.

Special Considerations

The byway is a winding two-lane highway. There are more passing zones on the upgrade than the downgrade. Please be courteous, and pull over if you find yourself with a train of cars behind you.

Winter weather can be severe in Logan Canyon, so the Highway Patrol may require that your vehicle carry chains from November through March.

Restrictions

Winter travel: Since this is the main thoroughfare to and from Bear Lake's communities, Beaver Mountain Ski Resort, and the city of Logan, UDOT works hard to keep the road open and cleared of snow in the winter.

Rock climbers: All cliffs in Logan Canyon have USFS sensitive plants growing on them. Climbing and rappelling within 50 feet of a threatened or endangered plant (such as the endemic Maguire's Primrose or the Smith Violet) is not allowed.

Currently, climbing and rappelling is not permitted on most of China Wall nor on the Greenhouse Wall and adjacent cliffs.

Please refer to the bulletin board at the base of some walls (including Fucoidal, 385, and the Second Practice Wall) before climbing, and respect the climbing zones in Logan Canyon so that future climbers can continue to enjoy the unique opportunities in this area.

Seasons

Best Time to Drive

Although the byway is worth driving during every season, the fall is full of brilliant color from September through October.

Fall

Fall is crisp, cool and pleasant. People are out enjoying fall foliage and this peaceful time of year in the canyon.

High Season

The Canyon receives its highest volume of visitors during the summer with all the recreational activities that are available.

Spring

Spring is warm and crisp, but the weather can change quickly and it's good to have warm clothing on hand.

Summer

Summer is warm to hot, and dry. The recreational high season occurs during the summer.

Winter

Winter is cold with lots of snow. The route is well-traveled, especially on weekends. Watch out for skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers by the roadside or crossing the road.
