Driving the Byway
New Hampshire Section
Section 1 - NH 63 and NH 12
- Follow the Massachusetts border north along NH 63 for 21.6
miles to the intersection of NH 63, NH 12 N, and 12 E.
- From the intersection of 12 E and NH 12 N, go 5.7 miles to
Walpole.
Section 2 - NH 123
- Take US 5 back to NH 12 and cross the Connecticut River into
New Hampshire.
- From the junction of NH 12 and NH 123 in Walpole go east 2.7
miles to the village of Cold River.
- From Cold River, drive 1.6 miles north to North Walpole.
Section 3 - NH 12 and NH 12A
- Follow NH 12 for 13.5 miles to the intersection of NH 12 and NH
12A east.
- Take 12A for 26.9 miles from North Charlestown to Claremont
Junction to West Claremont to the intersection of 12A and NH
103.
- Go straight ahead to Plainfield Village, through West Lebanon
to the intersection with US 4.
Section 4 - US 4 and NH 10
- From the intersection of 12A and US 4, drive 0.3 miles to the
intersection of US 4 West and NH 10 North.
- Follow NH 10 North for 40.1 miles to the junction of NH 10 and
NH 135.
Section 5 - NH 135 and US 3
- Follow NH 135 for 46.6 miles past the junction with NH 302
until it intersects with US 3 and US 2 near Lancaster.
- Follow US 3 for 76.5 miles to the Canadian border.
Section 6 - US 3 and NH 145
- From the Canadian border, turn around and drive south on US
3.
- Near Pittsburgh, US 3 and NH 145 intersect. Follow NH 145 for
13.1 miles until junction with US 3.
Vermont Section
Section 1 - VT 142 and US 5
- Leaving from the Vermont/Massachusetts border, follow VT 142
for 10.8 miles until it intersects with US 5.
- Follow US 5 for 128.3 miles.
Section 2 - US 2 and Interstate 93 North
- At the junction of US 5 and US 2, follow US 2 for 26.9 miles to
junction with VT 102.
- Go south on I-93 for 11.4 miles to US 5 at the Vermont
border.
Section 3 - VT 18 and VT 102
- When US 5 meets with VT 18, follow VT 18 for 7.9 miles going
east across the Connecticut River to NH 135/18.
- Follow NH 135 until the north intersection of US 2.
- When US 2 meets VT 102, follow VT 102 for 43.8 miles until the
byway ends in Stewartstown, New Hampshire.
Massachusetts Section
- The byway begins in South Hadley on MS-47.
- Drive north through Hadley, Sunderland, and Montague.
- The byway joins with MA-63 and continues north through Erving and Northfield to the New Hampshire border.
