San Luis Obispo Historic Railroad District (CA)
The Southern Pacific Railroad route across San Luis Obispo was established in May, 1894 and changed the face of the city. The railroad route also introduced the industrial age to the city.

San Simeon State Park is one of the state's oldest parks. Hike some trails, enroll your kids in the junior ranger program, and spend the night in one of two campgrounds.

William R. Hearst Memorial State Beach (CA)
This protected cove also offers visitors pier fishing and deep-sea fishing from chartered boats.
Directions: The beach is located near the historic town of San Simeon directly adjacent to Highway 1.
