Holmen, WI
During the mid-1800's, wheat and grain farming in Wisconsin became difficult as other states across the nation were able to yield better wheat crops. Soon an alternative industry surfaced and large-scale dairy farming became a trait of Wisconsin. The town of Holmen was one of the dairy towns that developed at this time. Holmen's creamery (built in 1923) still stands in the town's original commercial district and was a stalwart business, processing the milk brought by the dairy farmers nestled in fertile coulees of the region.
