The rocky cliffs of Royal Gorge are a breathtaking sight for any traveler. The area features an impressive suspension bridge and recreational park located among the majestic rocky mountains. Carved out by the Arkansas River, the Royal Gorge is a geological wonder that took three million years to create.
One of America's most spectacular attractions, the Royal Gorge Bridge is the world's highest suspension bridge. This amazing sight is located 8 miles west, off of US 50. Beginning as a one-lane toll bridge built in 1929, the Royal Gorge Bridge spans 1,053 feet above the Arkansas River.
The park offers an aerial tram across the canyon, children's attractions, theater, trolley, carousel, playground, miniature train, and scenic trails. Picnicking may be an activity that guests will want to enjoy near the Royal Gorge. Visitors can also ride the world's steepest incline railway to the bottom of the gorge. An average of 500,000 visitors a year enjoy the breathtaking vistas from the bridge and adjoining park.
