Telluride, CO
Originally settled in the 1870s as a gold and silver mining camp, Telluride became a town in 1878. In 1964, the town was designated as a National Historic District. The town's historical museum features mining, Indian, pioneer, and early skiing artifacts. Much of the town's early Victorian architecture still remains. Today, the historic downtown lends the perfect setting for year-round shopping and lodging. Four-wheel-drive roads lead to historic mining towns on the Forest.
Telluride is a town of "firsts"; it was the site of Butch Cassidy's first bank robbery and it was the first town in the West to be illuminated by electricity after the building of the Ames Power Plant in Ilium Valley.
Telluride, Colorado's "Festival Capital", hosts the Telluride Film Festival, as well as a bevy of music festivals, including Bluegrass, Jazz, and Blues. In addition to hosting music festivals, Telluride offers free summer concerts every Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm in Mountain Village.
Set high in the mountains, Telluride is a beautiful place to visit. From snow-capped peaks to Bridal Veil Falls, the longest waterfall drop in Colorado, Telluride truly has sights to be seen.
