Sheyenne River Valley Scenic Byway
Walker Dam, ND

Myron Walker built his Oakville mill about 1882. He marketed "Walker's Best" flour with trains of teams hauling his produce to railheads at Fingal and Valley City. Much of this went to New York City but his mill also supplied flour to the local towns of Tower City, Eckelson, Enderlin, and Griswold.

Myron Walker built a dam at this site around 1906, preparing to move his mill closer to the new road and Kathryn. However, when the dam was undercut during some water rights issues and washed out, Walker gave up the idea. The dam here now was built by the WPA during the Depression, but remnants of the older dam are still visible.
