Alaska's Marine Highway
Unalaska/Dutch Harbor, AK

Unalaska/Dutch Harbor is the westernmost point of the Marine Highway. Located in the Aleutian Islands, it is home to the Unangan or Aleut people. The town was bombed by Japanese during WWII.

The Aleutian people have lived on these islands for thousands of years. They established a sophisticated society that meshed smoothly with the demanding, but resource-rich climate of the North Pacific. The Museum of the Aleutians in Unalaska/Dutch Harbor tells this history. The Aleutian World War II interpretive center and National Historic Area documents when neighboring islands were occupied by the Japanese.
