A Traveler's Experience
OregonCoaster on September 7, 2008Pacific Coast Scenic Byway - Oregon (OR)
I live only a few hours from the Oregon Coast and travel there often. The natural beauty of our coastline is really wonderful, from the rocky cliffs to towering sea stacks just offshore to long sandy beaches. The hikes just off Highway 101 offer some amazing sights. For me some highlights for visitors unfamiliar with the area are these:
Indian Sands trail just north of Brookings. Short hike to great cliffsides.
Cape Perpetua Lookout and Devils Churn on Central Oregon Coast - amazing wave action.
Sea Lion Caves. It's private and kind of touristy but you cannot get this close to Sea Lions elsewhere without breaking the law.
Bandon, Florence, and Newport all have great "Old Towns" that are now primarily geared to tourists but offer charming glimpses into the old fishing days.
