A Traveler's Experience

I had visited this byway in 2003 and I did a summer geology field camp outside of Red Lodge in '06. What a beautiful place to see and spend time in. I could never get tired of driving over that road and seeing the views from there. And what a difference at ~11K feet. If you ever spend time in this area - take a drive up the highway at night. You can see the lights from Billings - very cool and the sunsets are awesome as well. I'm planning a trip out to OR/WA this year and... I'll definitely be making a side trip to the Beartooth Highway - it's one of my favorite places and I would certainly recommend it to anyone who likes driving, hiking, and great scenery.

AndrewDuluth on April 20, 2009 (traveled on August 10, 2008)This is one of the most beautiful places in the world that you can drive to. Last summer we camped for five days at one of the gorgeous National Forest campgrounds south of Red Lodge and drove up the switchbacks nearly every day to hike and hang out above treeline. Gorgeous!
