A Traveler's Experience

This is a delightful drive anytime of year. Leadville is a classic old west town. I highly recommend the Tennessee Pass cafe for great food. Be sure to hike Mt. Elbert; the East Ridge is a very easy, gentle trail that does not require any technical climbing or even scrambling, and it is the highest peak in the Rockies (obviously). Independence Pass is beautiful if it is open, and despite the elevation, it actually isn't as harrowing of a drive as you would think. The views of La Plata Peak before the pass are extraordinary.
