Riding into the granite town of Ellicott City is not to be missed. Nestled within the Patapsco River Valley, the Main Street has endured the ravages of flood and fire. Be sure to look at the trestle by the Ellicott City B&O Railroad Museum for the river's heights during various storms. Fires in the past have wrecked havoc, but each time, the community came back stronger and more vibrant. How many other places in America can you have fine French food, get a tattoo and then go for tea. Foodies will have found mecca in this stretch of splendor -- from France, Mexico, Italy and then old-fashioned pubs with creative menus, followed by a stop at a great brewery. And, don't forget the shopping.
