A Traveler's Experience

So, how does one get lost on a beach? I'm not sure, but I managed to do just that last spring in Melbourne on the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway. Coming from an area of the country void of any beaches, I thought it would be fun to take an early morning jog along the beach just outside of the hotel. And it was fun! The beach was serene and beautiful. The waves were almost hypnotizing. Well, I ran for what seemed like a couple of miles and then turned around and started to run back. After a little while, I realized that I didn't take note of what the hotel liked like from the beach and that all the boardwalks looked the same! Well, still totally enthralled with ocean and the waves, I just kept going for what felt like a few miles, but then nothing looked familiar. So, I just kept going further. An hour or so later, I finally decided to get
off the beach and back onto the byway. It was only then that I discovered how lost I really was. It took a while, but I managed to limp back to the
hotel. Despite my aching legs, it was still a very memorable jog.
In general, I found Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway to be a fascinating byway with lots of sightseeing, wildlife watching, and recreational
opportunities. I really enjoyed the Pelican Island Wildlife Refuge, and seeing lots of unusual mailboxes along the byway, like this one of a hatching sea-turtle.
