A Traveler's Experience
Scott - aka LA 66 on August 8, 2004Arroyo Seco Historic Parkway - Route 110 (CA)
I have the luxury of living right near the Arroyo Seco Parkway. (No, I refuse to call it the Pasadena Freeway. It's not!) The area known as the Lower Arroyo Seco through which the Parkway traverses is an absolutely gorgeous, culturally diverse region of Los Angeles. Although a somewhat harrowing experience sometimes due to traffic congestion or speedy drivers, the view from the Parkway is splendid.
Take the time to get off of the Parkway and enjoy the surrounding area as well. There are quite a few parks and museums easily reachable from the Parkway, and there are quite a few historic areas (Highland Park, Pasadena, South Pasadena) in the Lower Arroyo Seco as well.
Also, the northbound lanes traverse Elysian Park through the Figueroa Street tunnels. Constructed between 1931 and 1935, these tunnels were the only vehicle tunnels that Route 66 passed through for its entire length.
