We drove round-trip from Monterey to San Simeon and were continually astounded by the natural beauty of the ocean, mountains, and trees. There are plenty of turn-outs to stop and take pictures, and we had very little traffic. The twists and turns can get pretty tiring, but that's when you should get out and photograph or hike! A thoroughly enjoyable, beautiful drive.

Breath taking views and mountains, beautiful bridges and waterfalls. We plan to do the drive again someday, when we have the time to shop and camp. What a beautiful place!

Go during the summer, and splurge on a convertible. Don't be in a hurry - much of the highway is twisty, with sharp drop-offs into the Pacific Ocean below.... [more]
