laj10252002 on August 25, 2007 (traveled on February 18, 2004)I don't think words can describe how beautiful the drive was down Route 1. Breath taking views and mountains, beautiful bridges and waterfalls. We plan to do the drive again someday, when we have the time to shop and camp. What a beautiful place!
zuni on June 26, 2007 (traveled on June 21, 2007)Just got back from camping for 4 days at Limekiln State Park. It was wonderful! Our camp site nestled on a hill above the Pacific Ocean. This campground also has quiet, shaded Redwood Groves that lead you to a magnificent waterfall and 4 historic "Lime Kilns". The facilities were kept clean and the rangers very helpful.

We have 2 favorite places to stop for some awesome whale watching and sunset viewing: Rocky Point and Nepenthe. Both are restaurant/bars right off Hwy... [more]
scotterboss on January 25, 2004 (traveled on June 17, 2003)California's Highway 1 from San Luis Obispo up through Carmel is some of the most beautiful country on Earth. Go during the summer, and splurge on a convertible. Don't be in a hurry - much of the highway is twisty, with sharp drop-offs into the Pacific Ocean below.... [more]
kmiller on January 15, 2004 (traveled on July 30, 2001)This was a most amazing experience! We left our son at the Yuma, AZ air station while he was stationed in the Marines and went to San Diego...followed the Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco--what beautiful country! Saw sea kayaks with dolphins swimming around... [more]
HoosierChris on October 14, 2003The Monterey to Morro Bay stretch of the California coast continues to enchant. I only wish we allowed more time to spend amongst the coastal redwoods in Julia Pfeifer State Park - stunning!
Further down the coast at San Simeon is the amazingly extravagant Hearst... [more]
