June 30, 2009 - Attention History Buffs: French & Indian War Encampment on Seaway Trail
Old Fort Niagra will be putting on its largest French & Indian War Encampment ever this weekend, July 3-5, about seven miles north of Lewiston, NY.
The event will be held in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the 1759 Siege of Niagara. More than 2,300 re-enactors portraying British and French forces and Native American warriors will recreate this siege. This event has been named as the signature event for 2009 by the New York State French & Indian War 250th Anniversary Commemoration Commission. Plans for the three-day event call for extensive battle re-enactments, a nighttime artillery bombardment with fireworks, naval forces, and large living history camps filled with people portraying 18th-century soldiers and artisans.
