December 30, 2008 - Winter Wings Festival on Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway
Plan now to visit the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway in Oregon and California for the oldest birding festival in the nation — the 2009 Winter Wings Festival on February 13-15, 2009 at the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls.
This community event celebrates the return of Bald Eagles and other raptors and wintering flocks of waterfowl to the Klamath Basin. The Basin is home to the largest concentration of wintering Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states. The Festival arranges field trips to observe Bald Eagles as they fly in and out of their roosting area or forage in the nearby refuges and view the spectacular flocks of waterfowl. Participants can also enjoy a variety of workshops, mini-sessions, free family activities, and special receptions.
Pete Dunne, Director of the Audubon Cape May Bird Observatory, will be the keynote speaker on Feb. 13, 2009. Pete is a well-known author and co-author of numerous books about birds and birding, including Hawks in Flight, Pete Dunne on Birding, Pete Dunne’s Essential Field Guide Companion and The Art of Pishing. His talk will be preceded by a welcome reception. Canon USA is also sponsoring three special events that will be of interest to nature photographers.
