December 31, 2007 - Walleye Madness New Year's Eve Celebration on the Ohio River

PORT CLINTON - Come celebrate the New Year in a unique way on the Ohio River Scenic Byway. Instead of a lighted ball, folks in this river town drop a 20 foot, 600-pound walleye at the stroke of midnight at Port Clinton’s annual Walleye Madness at Midnight event December 31st.

Festivities and attractions, including street vendors, children’s games, live music, a lottery, and much more, are located on Madison St. in downtown Port Clinton and begin at 3:00 pm. The main on-stage program starts at 10:35 pm and includes musical numbers, award presentations, and the announcement of winning lottery numbers.

The event concludes at midnight with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne,” the dropping of “Wylie” the walleye, and a fireworks show.

With the exception of a heated tent, the event is held outdoors, so visitors are encouraged to bundle up to face the winter temperatures, which commonly drop lower than 10 degrees.
