October 27, 2005 - Pennsylvania Names New Scenic Byways

Governor Edward G. Rendell announced today that a 3-mile section of Route 6 in Wyoming County and a 17-mile stretch of Route 611 in Northampton County have become Pennsylvania’s latest Scenic Byways.

The 3-mile section of U.S. Route 6 in Tunkhannock Borough and Tunkhannock Township, Wyoming County, has been named “Gateway to the Endless Mountains.” It includes the Tunkhannock Bypass, offers a picturesque view of the Susquehanna River and is silhouetted by the Endless Mountains. It’s Pennsylvania’s 13th Scenic Byway.

The 14th Pennsylvania Scenic Byway includes three roads in Lower Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County, including Route 611, the Martins Creek-Belvidere Highway and Little Creek Road. Tourist stops along the roads include the Delaware River, native American digs, cemeteries of notable descendants, The Hunter Martin Settlement Museum, Martins Creek Ferry, Hunters Ferry and outdoor recreation, such as boating, biking, hunting, fishing, walking and 2,500 acres of preserved farmland.
