America's Byways and National Wildlife Refuges
Chesapeake Country Scenic Byway (Maryland)

Celebrate life on the Chesapeake Bay as you drive the Chesapeake Country Scenic Byway. Observe boatmen bringing their bounty to shore, visit historic towns, and travel through scenic stretches of productive farmland. See the truly special landscape of the Mid-Atlantic Region and gain an appreciation for the working life of Maryland's Eastern Shore farmers, boatmen and merchants. The bounty of life in the Chesapeake area is not restricted solely to the bay's waters. Located at the end of the byway's northern branch, Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge provides natural habitat for a variety of wildlife. More than 240 species of birds make their homes here, but birds aren't the only thing you'll see in the air; the refuge's manifold species of butterflies and the endangered, tree-loving Delmarva Fox Squirrel can also be seen.
