America's Byways and National Wildlife Refuges
Loess Hills Scenic Byway
(Iowa)
Weaving through the rugged landscape of silt deposits along the Missouri River Valley, the Loess Hills Scenic Byway holds natural features found only one other place on Earth: the Yellow River Valley of China. The DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge is home to 500,000-plus snow geese and other waterfowl in the spring and fall. During the summer, grassland birds breed in number and turkey swagger in their season.
