America's Byways and National Wildlife Refuges
Flaming Gorge-Uintas National Scenic Byway (Utah)

Flaming Gorge-Uintas Scenic Byway meanders over the eastern flank of the Uinta Mountains and through the Ashley National Forest and Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. View wildlife in their native habitats and experience the "real West" as passed down through western folklore of early explorers, homesteaders, mountainmen, outlaws and cowboys. Nearby, two wildlife refuges provide you with additional wildlife watching opportunities. Ouray National Wildlife Refuge, 20 miles south of the byway, attracts thousands of waterfowl and other birds to a landscape watered by the Green River. Or, for a quick trip to Colorado, drive about 25 miles east of the byway to Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge and see a living heritage that conserves wildlife and their habitats.
