America's Byways and National Wildlife Refuges
Rangeley Lakes Scenic Byway (Maine)

Drive the Rangeley Lakes Scenic Byway and wind through the mountains and lakes of western Maine. A feast for the eyes, the byway treats travelers with spectacular scenery, fantastic recreation, a variety of wildlife, local museums, and several quaint New England villages. Here, nature exists in abundance at every turn, including 15 miles southwest of the byway in Lake Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge. Protecting over 20,500 acres of wetlands and forested uplands, the refuge's diverse and exceptional habitats provide wonderful breeding and foraging areas for migratory birds, resident wildlife, endangered species, and rare flora.
