Driving the Byway
Mannington to Salem
The byway starts in Mannington Township at milepost 1.53 on Hawks Bridge Rd./CR 540. Turn right onto Route 45 into Salem and then make a right onto Route 49.
At this point, you can continue along the main route of the byway or take the Fort Mott State Park spur to visit this point of interest.
Byway Spur: Fort Mott State Park
To get to the Fort Mott State Park Spur follow Route 49, which makes a right onto Front St./Route 49. Continue straight along Front Street and bear left across the Salem River onto S. Broadway/Route 49. Follow Route 49 and make a left onto Freas Rd. and then a right onto Supawna Rd. Follow Supawna and make a left onto Route 49 and then a quick left onto Harrisonville-Lighthouse/CR 632 Rd., which will travel through the Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. Make a left onto Fort Mott Rd./CR 630 continue on Fort Mott Rd./CR 630 to Fort Mott State Park on the right.
To return to the main byway from Fort Mott State Park, follow Fort Mott Rd./CR 603 and bear right onto Harrisonville Lighthouse Rd./CR 632. Turn right onto Route 49 and make another immediate right onto Supawna Rd. Turn left onto Freas Rd. and right onto Route 49E. Take Route 49E into Salem. After crossing the bridge over Salem River follow Route 49 as it bears right at intersection (also named Front St. at this point). Continue straight ahead at next intersection (also called West Broadway) and then right onto Grieves Parkway and left onto Tilbury Rd./CR 661.
Salem to Othello
Turn right onto Sinnickson’s Landing Rd./CR 661. Sinnickson’s Landing Road comes to a T. Make a right onto Fort Elfsborg-Salem Rd./CR 625 and bear left onto Fort Elfsborg-Hancocks Bridge Rd./CR 624. Follow Fort Elfsborg Hancock Rd./CR 624 as it curves south and then east and comes to a T then make a right onto Salem-Hancocks Bridge Rd./CR 658, which goes over Alloway Creek. Once over Alloway Creek it becomes Locust Island Rd. Continue on CR 658 by turning left onto Hancocks Bridge/Harmersville Rd./CR 658 at the traffic light. From Hancocks Bridge/Harmersville Rd./CR 658 bear right onto Harmersville-Canton Rd./CR623.
Continue on Harmersville-Canton Rd./CR 623 into Cumberland County where it becomes Causeway Rd./CR 623 and Chestnut Rd./CR 623. Continue on CR 623 that becomes Ye Greate St./CR 623.
At this point, you can continue along the main route, or take the Bayside Tract Preservation Site Spur.
Byway Spur: Bayside Tract Preservation Site
To get to the Bayside Tract Preservation Site Spur follow CR 623 and make a left onto Bacons Neck Rd./CR 642 and then a right onto Tindall Island Rd./CR 642. Make a left onto Bayside Rd. which will end at the Bayside Tract Preservation Site.
Othello to Cedarville
To continue on the main route, take Bayside Rd. back to T intersection with Tindall Island Rd. and turn right onto Tindall Island Rd. and then left onto Bacons Neck Rd./CR 642 into Greenwich. At intersection turn right onto Ye Greate St./CR 623. After 0.3 miles on Ye Greate St./CR 623, turn left onto Maple St./Bridgeton-Greenwich Rd./CR 607. Take Greenwich Rd./Bridgeton Rd./CR 607 north towards Bridgeton and make a right onto Sheppards Mill Rd./CR 650. Take to T intersection and turn left onto Dutch Neck Rd./CR 650 and take into Bridgeton where it becomes Fayette St. Turn right onto Route 49.
Take Route 49 east over the Cohansey River and turn right onto Grove St./Bridgeton-Fairton Rd. South/Spur CR 609 (Spur CR 609 is one way south out of Bridgeton and CR 609 is one way north into Bridgeton. South of Bridgeton the two roads merge and become Bridgeton Fairton Rd./CR 609) and merge with CR 553 into Fairton. At T intersection, bear right, continuing on Cedarville Road/CR 553.
Continue on Cedarville Rd./CR 553 that becomes Main St. South of Cedarville, the road becomes Cedarville-Newport Rd./CR 553. Continue on Cedarville-Newport Road/CR 553 through blinker light intersection.
At this point, you can take the Fortescue Wildlife Management Area Spur or continue on the main byway.
Byway Spur: Fortescue Wildlife Management Area
To get to the Fortescue Wildlife Management Area Spur make a right onto Baptist Rd./CR 656 and make a left onto Fortescue Rd./CR 637. Follow Fortescue Rd./CR 637 bearing left at the Y to stay on Fortescue Rd. If you continue on Fortescue Rd./CR 637, the Fortescue State Marina is on the right after the bridge crossing Fortescue Creek. To reach Fortescue and the Delaware Bay, stay on Fortescue Rd./CR 637. Follow Fortescue Rd./CR 637 north to return to the spine of the byway.
Cedarville to Port Norris
Make a right onto Baptist Rd./CR 656 and return to CR 553, turning right onto Main St. Turn right onto Turkey Point Rd./CR 664 and follow to its end. Make a left onto Maple St. north to T with Main Street/CR 553. Turn right onto Main St./CR 553 and take towards Port Norris.
At this point, you can take the Port Norris spur, or continue on the main route.
Byway Spur: Port Norris
Once in Port Norris make a right onto High St./Commercial Twp. 631 to reach the Port Norris Bivalve Spur. To return to the spine of the byway, follow High St. and make a right onto Main St. /CR 553.
Port Norris to Heislerville
From CR 553 turn left onto North Ave./CR 649. At Y where CR 649 bears right, stay on North Ave. (CR 633) as it curves slightly to the left (do not bear right onto CR 649). Make a right at the intersection with Highland St./CR 676 continue along Highland St. and make a left onto Front St./CR 744. Follow and make a right onto the Mauricetown Bypass/CR 670, which goes over the Maurice River as the Mauricetown Causeway Bridge/CR 670. Turn right onto Delsea Dr./Route 47 South. Continue along Delsea Dr./Route 47 South. Turn right onto Main St./CR 616 toward Dorchester and Leesburg. Continue straight on this road as it becomes River Rd. (High St./CR 616 veers left, but do not take it). Continue on River Rd. as it curves left and becomes Menhaden Rd. From Menhaden Rd. make a right onto Main St./CR 616 and take south into Heislerville
At this point, you can either take the East Point Lighthouse Spur, or continue traveling along the main route.
Byway Spur: East Point Lighthouse
To get to the East Point Lighthouse Spur, at the T intersection turn right onto East Point Rd. and turn right onto Lighthouse Rd. To return back to the main route, return back along East Point Rd. and stay straight onto Glade Rd./CR 616 east and turn right onto Delsea Dr./Route 47 South.
Heislerville to End of Byway
Make a left onto Glade Road./CR 616 then continue south on Delsea Dr./Route 47 for over 20 miles until lighted intersection with Seashore Rd./Railroad Ave./CR 626 just south of MP 4.5. Turn right at this intersection and continue on Seashore Rd./CR 626.
Seashore Rd./CR 626 becomes Route 162 for the section of road going over the Cape May Canal as the bridge and then reverts back to Seashore Rd./CR 626. Continue on Seashore Road/CR 626 to lighted intersection with Sunset Boulevard/CR 606 where you will make a right onto Sunset Blvd./CR 606. Follow Sunset Blvd./CR 606 to intersection with Lighthouse Ave./CR 629 and turn left just east of MP 1.0. Follow Lighthouse Ave./CR 629 to Cape May Point State Park, where the byway ends.
