Start: Rock Mill Plantation
Suggested Time at This Site: 1 hour 30 minutes Take your time and enjoy a rich history dating back to the early 1800's. Visit the Rock Mills Church, originally built in 1840 under the direction of William Shivers, or stroll through the Car Emporium and experience a unique display of antique automobiles while the kids hang out with peacocks, llamas, and other friendly creatures at the petting zoo.

Stop 2: Warrenton
Directions from previous place: Head south down Jewell Road and take a left on Macon Highway. Follow Macon Highway to Warrenton.
Distance from Previous Site: 14.8 miles / 23.7 km Travel Time from Previous Site: 20 minutes Suggested Time at This Site: 3 hours After enjoying a pleasant drive through Warren County, be sure to stop in Warrenton for a gander at the historic town named for Revolutionary War hero General Joseph Warren.
While in town, browse a variety of unique local shops featuring antiques, lawn and garden, and gifts or sample authentic Southern cuisine at one of the town's restaurants. Stop off with your laptop for a cup of coffee and check your email at a hotspot in a downtown cafe.

Stop 3: Warren County Courthouse
Directions from previous place: Follow Highway 16 into Warrenton, where the name changes to Main Street. Continue to the courthouse.
Distance from Previous Site: 0.8 miles / 1.3 km Travel Time from Previous Site: 2 minutes Suggested Time at This Site: 1 hour Next, look for the handsome red-brick building that serves as the Warren County Courthouse and admire Neoclassic Revival architecture dating back to the early 1900's. Be sure to visit the Walk the Halls of History exhibit, which features original artwork depicting the area's local heritage.

End: Burkhalter House
Directions from previous place: From Main Street, take a slight right at Jefferson Davis Memorial Highway/US-278. Turn left at Oak Street. Turn right at Davis Street to arrive at the Burkhalter House.
Distance from Previous Site: 0.7 miles / 1.1 km Travel Time from Previous Site: 2 minutes Suggested Time at This Site: 5 minutes Visit the first colonial house in Warren County, built by Revolutionary War Soldier Jacob Burkhalter with the columns of the porch being the square type used in that day. It was in this home that General Lafayette, on his last visit to America, spent two weeks being nursed back to health.
Note: As this is a private residence, access to the inside of the Burkhalter house is restricted without consent of the owner.
