Special Considerations

The Diamond Loop Tour Route and the Diamond Loop Back Country Byway follow the same main route, but the Diamond Loop Back Country Byway starts in the town of Frenchglen, while the Diamond Loop Tour Route starts in Burns.

Restrictions

The byway is a Type I road. Paved and normal passenger cars can easily navigate the passes. However, roads are set at slower speeds and are more narrow than the main highway.

The byway is open year round but the gravel sections may be difficult during or after bad weather.

Winter

Parts of the byway may be closed during the winter due to snow. Check local weather before driving the byway.
