George Washington Memorial Parkway
Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve, VA
Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve is along the shores of the Potomac River, near the southern end of the parkway and is one of the largest tidal freshwater marshes in the jurisdiction of the NPS. The marsh contains over 375 species of plants, and several inventories have documented both rare plants and animals. The area is beloved by the local birding community, with volunteer led bird watches and talks. Visitors will see ospreys, herons and red-winged blackbirds.
