Special Considerations

If you are going through the Skyline Drive, please be aware that it is located in the Shenandoah National Park.

Restrictions

From November to early January, Skyline Drive is closed from dusk to dawn each night to allow park rangers to concentrate on problem boundary areas related to poaching during hunting season. Hunting is prohibited in the park.

During winter months Skyline Drive is occasionaly closed for short periods following snow storms or during icing conditions in order to insure visitor safety.

Best Time to Drive

Fall is the most popular time, due to the incredible array of colors found in the foliage along the entire length of Skyline Drive and at overlooks.

High Season

October weekends are the most popular time for visitors on Skyline Drive due to the peaking of the fall foliage.
