Special Considerations

Experience 12,000 years of history along Lake Erie. Bike, hike, boat, fish, and birdwatch along the Lake Erie Islands, coastal marshes, prairies, rivers and waterfalls. Follow tales of Great Lakes shipping and sailing with visits to maritime museums, restored freighters, and lighthouses. Experience big-city ports and quaint nautical villages. Learn about the Western Reserve, Underground Railroad and the War of 1812.

Restrictions

Route has no seasonal closures. Some historic attractions have seasonal hours. Travelers should check hours and days of operation for specific attractions they'd like to see.

Seasons

Best Time to Drive

The trail is like an amusement park where rides change daily, offering new activities each season; spring through fall offer great opportunities.

High Season

Peak tourism months are July and August, so additional traffic may be encountered on weekends in some areas of the route.
