A visit to the Grand View Scenic Byway isn't complete without making a few key stops. Park your car at the base of the slope and travel up one of the inclines, enjoying the change in scenery as you ascend to the top of Pittsburgh's "front porch." Take in the sites and visit the unique historic institutions along the way before enjoying a meal along Restaurant Row and shopping along one of business districts. Cap off your evening with some entertainment at one of the numerous venues in Station Square.

  • Start: Duquesne Incline

    Suggested Time at This Site: 30 minutes

    A visit to the Byway wouldn't be complete without riding one of the inclines, Dusquesne or Monongahela. They offer convenience of travel and wonderful views of the city.

  • Stop 2: Walking and Hiking

    Directions from previous place:

    Sidewalks and hiking trails are located throughout the byway.

    Suggested Time at This Site: 2 hours

    Take in the views of the Byway while stopping along the way to visit historic institutions on Grandview Avenue, like the Carnegie Library and St. Mary's on the Mount Church. Or, venture off the paved-path to experience the trails along the Emerald Link. Be sure to stop at the five overlooks for various views of the city and at the Meeting Point, on the western edge of the Byway, near where George Washington met with Seneca leader Guyasuta in 1770 after the French & Indian War.

  • Stop 3: Shopping

    Directions from previous place:

    Walk along Grandview Avenue to Shiloh Street for the Shiloh Business District, or travel down one of the inclines to shop at Station Square.

    Be sure to make frequent stops along your walk to enjoy the various shops and galleries along the Byway.

  • End: Restaurant Row

    After a long day of shopping and taking in the sites, stop off at Restaurant Row to enjoy a fantastic meal with a view. Be sure to check early if you need reservations!
