Palouse Scenic Byway
Almota, WA
The town of Almota was submerged when dams were built along the Snake River and is now a port near Colfax, along the banks of the Snake River. Almota is located on a pre historic Nez Perce Indian site called Allamotin or Almotine which means moonlight fishing or torch light fishing. Nearby is Lower Granite Dam which provides navigation, electric power generation, port facilities, recreation activities, plus fish and wildlife areas.
