Driving Directions
Driving the Byway
The Mt. Charleston Scenic Byway is made up of three state highways: Lee Canyon Road (State Route 156), a portion of Charleston Park road (State Route 157) in Kyle Canyon, and Deer Creek Road (State Route 158).
- Lee Canyon Road (State Rt. 156): An hour's drive from Las Vegas, Lee Canyon Road is the northern access to 11,918-foot Mount Charleston, the tallest point in Southern Nevada. The road also leads to the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort at Lee Canyon, the only ski operation in Southern Nevada.
- Kyle Canyon Road (State Rt. 157): This road is the southern access to Mount Charleston from Las Vegas and offers magnificent mountain scenery as well as occasional glimpses of golden eagles, owls, falcons, and other birds.
- Deer Creek Road (State Rt. 158): Hiking trails accessed from Deer Creek Road lead to a variety of attractions including a grove of ancient bristlecone pine trees, which are among the world's oldest living things. Summertime temperatures run at least 20 degrees cooler than in Las Vegas, making the region a welcome respite for hikers, campers, and picnickers.
