Big Bend Scenic Byway
St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, FL
With 68,000 acres of land and 31,000 of bay, the refuge features coastal marshes, creeks, and estuaries of seven north Florida rivers. It is the Longleaf Pine Research Demonstration Area for the country, and a “core Bald Eagle nesting site” for the southeast. A “Globally Important Bird Area” with over 300 species, its diverse community of plant and animal life support large aggregations of breeding, migrating, and wintering birds, including the endangered Whooping Crane.
