Looking for the perfect place to cool off during the hot summer? Look no further than Lake Tahoe on the Lake Tahoe - Eastshore Drive in Nevada. Lined by sandy beaches and the snow-capped mountains of the Nevada/California border, this byway takes you along Lake Tahoe, one of the nation’s premier water recreation destinations.
From the byway’s southern terminus on the Nevada-California state line, head about four miles north to reach Zephyr Cove. Rent a boat and cruise along the lake's clear blue water, or kick your adventure up a notch and go waterskiing and wakeboarding. For an even bigger adrenaline rush, try parasailing, offered at the Zephyr Cove Marina. Strapped into a parasail and tethered to the back of a motorboat, you’ll soar up to 1,400 feet over Lake Tahoe and get an incomparable aerial view of the crystal-clear lake, idyllic beaches, and dense evergreen forests.
If you have a boat of your own, take the byway three miles north from Zephyr’s Cove to the boat launch at Cave Rock. Before you push off into the waters, though, make sure your boat is clean and mussel-free, as quagga and zebra mussels could devastate the Lake Tahoe habitat. Also be aware that your boat may be subject to inspection.
For even more wet-and-wild excitement along the Lake Tahoe – Eastshore Drive, continue toward the northern end of the byway by Incline Village to Sand Harbor. At this Nevada state park, spend a leisurely day fishing for rainbow trout or brave the cold lake waters and go for a swim or scuba dive. Beach patrol is on duty from Memorial Day through Labor Day, so don’t miss your opportunity to cool off. When you come back onshore, enjoy the harbor’s lovely, fine-grained white sand that’s perfect for frolicking, picnicking, and just plain relaxing.
Folks come from miles around to the clear mountain waters of Lake Tahoe for relaxation and recreation. For aquatic adventure and fun in the sun this summer, take your family for a ride along the Lake Tahoe on the Lake Tahoe - Eastshore Drive, a route to a perfect water recreation vacation.
