Route 1 - Big Sur Coast Highway
Seaspray on the Green - Golfing in Monterey County

Between Monterey and Ragged Point on California's coastline lie some of the nation's most stunning coastal views, and among the Monterey Cypresses and elephant seals, you'll also discover world-class golf courses. From small and intimate golf experiences above the rocky cliff sides to once-in-a-lifetime rounds on internationally renowned courses, Route 1 – Big Sur Coast Highway delivers.

The seventeen-mile stretch between the towns of Monterey and Carmel invite tourists to marvel at the coast's natural beauty, but for golfers, this backdrop enhances some of the nation's most famous golf courses. Within the community of Pebble Beach, seven public and private courses test golfers on the same holes as the pros. Pebble Beach Golf Links hosts two annual professional tournaments and boasts four U.S. Opens and a PGA Championship since 1972, giving wins to names like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

The courses within Pebble Beach represent only a sampling of the Route 1 – Big Sur Coast Highway's golf opportunities, including Del Monte Golf Course, the oldest continuously operating course in the nation. The towns of Monterey, Seaside, Salinas, Carmel, and Pacific Grove all have their crown jewels. Tee up alongside rocky ocean cliffs on one side and oak and cypress groves on the other.

For those who take their sport seriously, Route 1 – Big Sur Coast Highway provides inviting fairways and pristine greens to the most distinguishing of golfers. Each hole provides a unique experience amidst spectacular scenery.
