Outdoor Facilities
The Blue Hill and Mahnomen trails are open year-round during daylight hours.The Mahnomen Trail is a designated National Recreation Trail. Most refuge lands are open to the public from September 1 to February 28.
The majority of the refuge is designated a wildlife sanctuary and closed to all public access from March 1 to August 31 to allow wildlife to breed and raise their young free from human disturbance. During the sanctuary period, the Blue Hill and Mahnomen hiking trails, the wildlife drive, and fishing access points on the St. Francis River remain open for public use.
