Mark Twain National Wildlife Refuge Complex - IA, IA
This wildlife refuge is divided into three different areas: the Big Timber Division, Horseshoe Bend, and the Louisa Division. Combined, they total over 9,000 acres of marsh, grassland, bottomland forest, and open water. Thousands of migrant and wintering waterfowl use the refuge. During spring and late summer migrant shorebirds take advantage of the floodplain and wetland habitat. Visitors are invited to hike, fish, and hunt, and boat. Several boat ramps provide access to the Mississippi River and Lake Odessa.
