Driving the Byway

The byway runs along the western shore of Chesapeake Bay, from the outskirts of Annapolis south to just south of Huntingtown.

• Start your drive at the junction of MD 2 and MD 253 just south of Annapolis, on the south side of the South River.
• Take MD 253 south past Londontowne to Central Ave.
• Turn east on Central Ave. and proceed to Muddy Creek Road.
• Turn south (right) on Muddy Creek Road (MD 468) and go south.
• Shortly after the road turns east, take a right turn south onto MD 256 into Churchton and then Deale.
• Take MD 258 (Bay Front Road) west to Franklin Gibson Road.
• Turn south (left) onto Franklin Gibson Road.
• At Leitch Road turn east (left).
• In Leitch, turn south on Town Point Road, which becomes Fairhaven Road or MD 423 through Fairhaven-On-The-Bay and Fairhaven.
• A small spur of the byway takes Friendship Road (MD 261) west to Friendship.
• Continuing on the main branch of the byway, stay on MD 261 and follow it as it goes south and then curves to the east, then around Herrington Harbor and enters Rose Haven.
• Stay on MD 261 around North Beach Park, and continue south alongside Chesapeake Bay through North Beach and Chesapeake Beach, where the road is now known as Bayside Road.
• Continue south through the U.S. Naval Reservation and several bayside towns until Willows.
• Shortly after Willows, Bayside Road becomes Plum Point Road or MD 263 and proceeds generally west.
• The byway ends at the junction with MD 2/4.
