Driving the Byway
The byway generally travels from Solomons north to Baltimore.
Solomons to Benedict (byway)
- Start in Solomons, which is at the tip of the eastern peninsula across the Patuxent River.
- Take MD 2 (also known as Solomons Island Road) north past Calvert Cliffs State Park.
- Near Long Beach you could take Parran and Mackall Road to Jefferson Patterson Park Museum. This spur is part of the byway.
- Once you return from your drive down this spur, continue north on Solomons Island Road through Saint Leonard.
- Turn southwest on Broomes Island Road.
- Turn northwest on Grays Road and continue past the Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Sanctuary at the junction with Sixes Road.
- This part of the byway ends at the junction with MD 231.
Benedict to Croom Road (not byway)
- To continue your drive, turn west (left) and proceed across the Patuxent River and through Benedict. After Benedict, the road becomes Prince Frederick Road.
- Continue to the junction with MD 381 (Brandywine Road) and turn north onto MD 381 (right.)
- Turn north (right) onto MD 382 (Croom Road.) You are now back on the byway.
Croom Road to Crain Highway (byway)
- Go northward on MD 382 (Croom Road) to Croom.
- Continue north through Croom on MD 382. The road will tend westward until the junction with Crain Highway (US 301), where this part of the byway ends.
Crain Highway to MD 295, the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (not byway)
- Turn right (northeast) onto US 301.
- Just past MD 4 turn west onto Pennsylvania Ave heading toward Upper Marlboro.
- Continue west toward I-495.
- Take I-495 north past Largo and take the MD 202 exit west.
- Continue west on MD 202 past Landover.
- Turn north on MD 295 where the byway resumes.
MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) to Fort St. in Baltimore (byway)
- Continue on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway north past College Park, Greenbelt and Beltsville.
- The byway ends at Fort St. in Baltimore.
