Clarysville Bridge and Alignment, MD

Road and bridge buffs will enjoy tracing the many old alignments and discovering original bridges that were bypassed by later alignments as the road was straightened to accommodate faster vehicles. The original alignment near Clarysville was replaced by U.S. 40 Alternate to the north (the Byway), but visitors can still drive through the small hamlet east of Grantsville on the road signed “Old National Pike.” The old alignment features sharper curves and views of modest homes which were likely built by immigrants based on vernacular building styles popular in the “old country.”
