Chesapeake Country Scenic Byway
Stevensville, MD
Founded in 1850, this village flourished with fishing, agriculture, and trade. It prospered throughout the Gilded Age and retains many traditional structures today. Visitors will find nearly 100 well-preserved historic buildings that are complemented by mature trees and narrow streets. The Cray House, built in 1893, is a rare example of "post and plank" construction. Visitors will also enjoy seeing the Stevensville Train Depot, built in 1902. The depot was part of a rail-line extension from Queenstown to Love Point.
Stevensville sits on land called Stevens Adventure, a 1694 land grant to Francis Stevens. The town was established in 1850 and its historic district was placed on the National Register in 1986. At the Western-most entrance of the Byway, Stevensville is one of the charming, small towns to visit!
