Hoffstadt Visitor Center focuses on the human aspects of the eruption and those who perished in the blast. One major attraction of this stop is the chance to take a helicopter ride where travelers catch an aerial glimpse of Toutle River mudflows and elk herds, as well as the devastated Mount St. Helens. Another reason to stop is to enjoy the only full-service restaurant on the highway with the finest view of any restaurant in the area. The visitor center also heads a short hiking trail with views over the valley.
