Mount Baker Highway (Route 542)
Nooksack Falls, WA

The waters of the North Fork of the Nooksack River begin their journey on the glaciered slopes of Mt. Shuksan. They flow widely over open mountain valleys and then must force their way into a deep rocky gorge. The river travels a narrow channel through the shadowy forests, then surges out into the air, plummeting 125 feet down to the rocky shores below. Nooksack Falls is only a short distance from the highway, and a lookout area offers a great view of the Falls. In the summer, vapors from the cold water drift up and soothe hot visitors. In the winter, ice formations from the condensation of the river water on the trees and rocks can be delicately beautiful.
