Columbia River Gorge Scenic Byway - Washington
Horsethief Lake State Park, WA
This park is a wonderful area to see pictographs and petroglyphs, including the famous "She Who Watches." Some of the oldest pictographs in the Northwest are found in this park. The park is a National Historic Site and guided tours are held to see the petroglyphs. Advance arrangements must be made for tours. Horsethief is located on beautiful land and is awash in fields of purple and gold mid-April. The state park is a 338-acre camping park with 7,500 feet of freshwater shoreline on the Columbia River. Horsethief Butte, namesake of the park, engulfs the skyline. It towers over the lake similar to an ancient fortress. The lake is about 90 acres in size.
