The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks are a fun place to visit. From the Carl S. English, Jr. Botanical Gardens to the lovely ocean views nearby, the Locks will give you a sense that you are away from the big city, when in fact you are right in Seattle.

The US Army Corps of Engineers designed a passage for spawning sockeye, chinook, and coho salmon, and steelhead, so they are more able to survive their swim upstream. You may even have the chance to see the spawning fish swimming up stream to lay eggs.
