Loess Hills Scenic Byway
Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail, IA
Led by Brigham Young, roughly 70,000 members of the Church of Jesus Christ (Mormons) traveled along the Mormon Pioneer Trail between 1846 and 1869 in order to escape religious persecution. The general route is from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Salt Lake City, Utah, covering about 1,300 miles. The route crosses the Loess Hills Scenic Byway at Council Bluffs, Iowa.
